SARU

In the past year I've been lucky to have been following the progress of Saru, who is one of the aspiring and promising musicians active in Tokyo. Young though he is, his professional music career spans almost a decade, during which he'd been active in Manchester, England for a number of years.

The style of his colourful music encompasses from soulful ballads, jazz, funk or reggae-influenced tunes to highly political-conscious explosive songs. But it is his presence in the stage that truly shines; he is capable of immediately capturing the audience with his distinctive style of singing, and relentlessly demands us to participate in the emotional journey of sounds together with his tight backing musicians.

As I watch him sing through the lens, I know for sure he is someone to watch in the music scene in Tokyo for the coming year.
